Kinship: A Community Created By Dancers, For Dancers

For years, Brown Girls Do Ballet has served as a lifeline for young dancers, providing mentorship, visibility, and opportunities to those often overlooked in the ballet world. But as our Ambassadors grew up and dancers from around the world reached out, one question kept coming up in phone calls, emails, and DMs:

"What does BGDB have for dancers 18 and up?"

That question wasn’t just a curiosity—it was a call to action. Adult dancers, whether they were transitioning into professional careers, navigating college dance programs, or rediscovering movement after time away, wanted a space to connect, grow, and continue their journey in dance.

So we listened.

We spoke with artistic directors, professional dancers, and college dance students to better understand what support adult dancers need most. The answer was clear: dancers wanted community, resources, and programming tailored to their evolving careers and personal growth.

Enter Kinship.

More than just a network, Kinship is a movement—a space created by dancers, for dancers. Whether you’re a former BGDB Ambassador, a pre-professional on the verge of a career, a seasoned dancer looking for community, or someone simply finding your way back to the barre, Kinship is here for you.

This initiative is led by the dancers themselves—the very people who asked for it. Our goal is to offer:
Connection – A network of peers who understand your journey.
Support – Resources on career transitions, mental health, and movement beyond traditional ballet.
Opportunities – Virtual and in-person events, mentorship, and collaborations designed with you in mind.

This is just the beginning. We invite you to join us at Kinshiponpointe.org to be part of the first wave of members shaping what’s next. Our first event will be a community gathering where we hear from YOU—because Kinship isn’t just about what we think dancers need. It’s about what dancers tell us they need.

We can’t wait to grow this space with you. Because no matter where your dance journey takes you, you’re never alone.
